What We Believe

1.

In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.

2.

In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

3.

That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.

4.

That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.

5.

That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.

6.

In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the word, and by the Holy Ghost.

7.

Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.

8.

In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.

9.

In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Ghost.

10.

In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

11.

Divine healing is provided for all in the Atonement.

12.

In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.

13.

In the pre-millennial Second Coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.

14.

In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked.

Church History

The Greencastle Church of God organized on April 3, 1986, with 30 charter members. There were a total of 49 people in attendance at this first meeting on April 9 when the church rented the Upton Community Center for a Wednesday evening service. The church rented the Greencastle Senior Center on April 13th for its first Sunday School and Morning Worship services with a total of 64 people in attendance. The church held worship services at the Senior Center, located on Antrim Church Road, for the next two years. During the first six months the average Sunday School attendance grew from 89 to 111.

Wanting its own place of worship, the church originally purchased 6.52 acres for $35,000 – a real bargain at $5,385 per acre – along South Rabbit Road and Route 16 near Upton. In 1997, an additional 2.74 acres were purchased. The current site now has 9.26 acres. On Sunday, July 26, 1987, groundbreaking ceremonies were held. Excavation began September 7, 1987, and the congregation moved into the present building on September 4, 1988. The church was paid off in June of 1998.

“The vision for the church started 10 years before the actual start of our church at its present site,” said Pastor Myers. “At a prayer conference in March of 1986 Brother Garland Griffis, the state overseer, said to me ‘What about Greencastle? We need a church in Greencastle and you are the man.’ I asked him to give me two weeks and I would have an answer. While driving home from the prayer conference, the Spirit of God came into the car and I said ‘Thank God, I’m going to Greencastle.’ A release came into my soul.”

The long-range plan for the church was established from the outset that when the congregation reached 200+ in attendance, it would build the main sanctuary. A third phase (fellowship hall/gym) would follow as the need grew. Construction is now complete. Our new state-of-the art main sanctuary, offices, and expanded classrooms are now open. Please come and worship with us.
